In 2015, the Jacobs Foundation committed to lead a comprehensive strategy around quality of education andearly childhood development in cocoa-growing communities of Cote d’Ivoire, and nationwide. This initiative calledTransforming Education in Cocoa Communities (TRECC) strives to enable children and youth to lead healthyand fulfilling lives, respond to local and global challenges, pursue their dreams, and reach their full potential. In2016, the Bernard Van Leer Foundation and the UBS Optimus Foundation have joined the initiative withfurther financial and intellectual capital commitments. Impact finance is one of the strategic pillars of this initiative,seeking to create a hub for education enterprises providing affordable market-based solutions in Cote d’Ivoire.
1. Background and Context: Transforming Education in Cocoa Communities
The role of Communication Manager will be to manage and coordinate all TRECC related communicationactivities and media relations. The position will be based in Abidjan, with occasional field visits to rural areasof intervention across the country.
The over-arching responsibilities of the role while co-developing and managing the communication strategy of the TRECC program include but are not limited to :
o Identify opportunities and define milestones for communication;
o Develop and implement tailored communication concepts (incl. online-campaigns and events);
o Manage TRECC’s website and social media (including LinkedIN, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube);
o Further develop TRECC’s image (e.g. TRECC documents, photos and videos);
o Manage external partners, e.g. writers, translators and event agencies;
o Capture field stories to be published in writing, image, and/or video for different outlets and mediachannels; and
o Create and maintain a network of local (Cote d’Ivoire) and international journalists.
o Degree in journalism, communication or digital marketing;o Minimum of five years of professional experience;
o Proven track record of managing corporate communications, steering agencies and performing media relations;
o Proven expertise in online-communication incl. social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube); strong skills in website/content management; Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop;
o Excellence in writing and editing both in French and English);
o Fluency in spoken and written English and French, working language will be mainly French;
o Relevant work experience in francophone Africa, especially Cote d’Ivoire, is ideal; and
o Investment experience or strong knowledge of business models in the education sector is a plus.
o Passionate about social change and international development, and driven to make a differencein the lives of the youngest citizens;
o Ability to work within tight deadlines and cope well under pressure;
o Team player but able to work independently in managing his/her responsibilities;
o Comfortable in dealing with stakeholders of all levels.
o A high level of managerial responsibility through the complete coordination of a communicationstrategy for a CHF 60M initiative;
o An exposure to a large number of high impact projects done in collaboration with the Ivoriangovernment and a wide network of international organizations; and
o A great working environment with a cosmopolitan team in an office space at the heart of the city with abeautiful view on the lagoon.
